Reading and Writing at Chenango Valley

New York State Literacy Initiative and the Science of Reading

We use evidence-based reading research, known as the Science of Reading, to provide clear and structured reading and writing instruction.

Literacy programs by grade level

  • Grades K–5: Amplify CKLA
    Builds background knowledge and foundational skills such as phonics.

  • Pre-K, Middle School, High School: Instruction follows NYS learning expectations using research-based materials and texts. Pre-K and Middle School teams are reviewing programs in the 2025–26 school year for implementation in the 2026–27 school year.

Student Support Services

AIS Intervention

Academic Intervention Services (AIS) offer extra learning support for students who may benefit from additional time or instruction in reading, writing, or math. The goal is to help every student grow, gain confidence, and be successful in the classroom.
