New York State Education Law section 409-H requires all public and nonpublic elementary and secondary schools to provide written notification to all persons in parental relations, faculty, and staff regarding the use of pesticides throughout the school year. Therefore, we are providing the following information on the Chenango Valley Central School District’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Plan. IPM is defined as the coordinated use of pest and environmental information utilizing pest control methods with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment.
Chenango Valley School District is required to maintain a list of persons in parental relation, faculty, and staff who wish to receive 48-hour prior written notification of certain pesticide applications. The following pesticide applications are not subject to prior notification requirements:
If a school remains unoccupied for a continuous 72-hours following an application:
- Anti-microbial products;
- Nonvolatile rodenticides in tamper-resistant bait stations in areas inaccessible to children;
- Nonvolatile insecticidal baits in tamper-resistant bait stations in areas inaccessible to children;
- Silica gel and other nonvolatile ready-to-use pastes, foams, or gels in areas inaccessible to children;
- Boric acid and disodium tetrahydrate;
- The application of EPA designated biopesticides;
- The application of EPA designated exempt materials under 40CFR152.25;
- The use of aerosol products with a directed spray in containers of 18 fluid ounces or less when used to protect individuals from an imminent threat from stinging and biting insects including venomous spiders, bees, wasps, and hornets.
During the school year, pesticide applications may occur in or to the district’s buildings or structures. If you would like to receive written notification 48 hours prior to the actual application of pesticides (products required by 409-h), please fill out a form available below or at the Facilities office. The information you will receive will include the application date(s), location, product name, and pesticide registration number.
In an emergency, pesticide application that is an imminent threat to human health, a good faith effort will be made to contact individuals in writing on this 48-hour listing as close to the 48-hour mark of the application as possible.
If you would like to be on this 48-hour pesticide application notification list, complete the below form. If you have any questions or concerns, please call 607-762-6861.
